2026-10-10 — portfolio content and visual refresh

  • Scope: a project-focused single page for employers/collaborators; no CV download or full career timeline. User accepted the content, then requested a more distinctive design inspired by Ladybug Tools, JK Rowling and Adam Grant.
  • Content complete: M+J/Hoare Lea relationship and Jan 2020–Oct 2026 engagement; MSc 2004; around 20 years; canonical LinkedIn; voluntary Ladybug contribution; separate personal/team awards. Six projects in approved order, three building-project examples and four research entries. Sources: updated general LinkedIn CV and corrections in C:/Users/michal/Documents/CV/HANDOVER.md, with SAM capabilities/research checked against https://sambim.xyz. Native OpenStudio conversion remains in development; digital twins are described as an area of interest, not a SAM capability or confirmed roadmap item.
  • Design complete: dark architectural hero, oversized local Manrope type, lime/ivory/teal palette, manual Models/Analysis/Ideas gallery, portrait-led About section, illustrated project cards, original TasmanianDevil artwork, publication-style research cards and native video controls. Plain HTML/CSS/minimal JS; no build step, package installation, autoplay or third-party runtime dependencies.
  • Changed files: index.html, assets/site.css, assets/site.js, assets/engineering-hero-*.webp, assets/tasmaniandevil-art.webp, three assets/manrope-*.ttf files, font license, assets/ASSET_SOURCES.md, README.md, this file. Existing WebContent and historical URLs are untouched. Hero artwork is generated concept art and labelled accordingly; the exact prompt and sources are recorded in the asset notes.
  • Initial-design validation (before the later review edits): all 49 accepted paragraphs from About onward were preserved, and outgoing link targets were unchanged. HTML checks passed for unique IDs, one H1, six project entries, four research entries, internal anchors, three tab/panel associations and image alt text. All 16 referenced local assets/paths return HTTP 200; no LFS pointer is embedded. JS syntax check and git diff --check pass. Twelve checked text colour pairs meet AA normal-text contrast (minimum 5.14:1).
  • Browser QA: desktop/mobile inspected, including the opening scenes, project cards, original art/video and research. No document or H1 overflow at 320, 390, 768, 1024 or 1440px. Gallery click, Left/Right wrapping, Home and End work; keyboard focus is visible and Enter navigation works. Mobile project/research anchors clear the 100px sticky header by about 16px. All nine image elements loaded. Roof video played (125.57s, readyState 4, no error) and was paused after testing. Browser warning/error log empty.
  • Fallback: a temporary local preview with the script removed confirmed the first scene/content remain visible, inactive gallery controls remain hidden, and mobile image/copy do not overlap or overflow. Temporary QA server stopped. Reduced-motion CSS and JS guards are present and reviewed; OS preference emulation was not performed. These are targeted checks, not an accessibility certification.
  • Link status from initial validation: SAM site and SAM/BHoM/Spider repositories/Spider site returned 200. LinkedIn HEAD returned 405; ResearchGate HEAD returned 403. User-confirmed profile URLs retained. At that checkpoint, research links used the verified SAM research section; the later review added DOI targets as recorded below. Two retained GIF files are LFS pointers and are excluded; legacy YouTube availability remains unverified. Historical pages are preserved, not modernised.
  • QA evidence: local screenshots/reports in C:/Users/michal/Documents/CV/_website_refresh/qa (redesign-*); these files and the first-design backup are outside this repository and will not travel with Git. Preview: http://127.0.0.1:8000/index.html; restart with the README command if needed.
  • Initial publication state: repository started clean at e1410de on master; the refresh was initially kept uncommitted for review. Approved release status is recorded below.
  • Review handoff prepared: C:/Users/michal/Documents/CV/_website_refresh/ASTRA_REVIEW_PROMPT.md (local-only). Review covered public email, seniority wording and biography emphasis. The reviewer retained the title/email and bold company names, while removing bold dates; currentness of the SAM scale figures remains a user-confirmation item. Independent review is optional and must inspect the uncommitted working tree before publication.
  • Review pass (2026-10-10, Claude): hero PNG (2.1 MB, the LCP image) replaced by responsive WebP (117 KB desktop / 47 KB mobile); TasmanianDevil card uses a 70 KB WebP copy; hidden gallery images now load after page load. Raised sub-11px labels (concept-art disclosure was 9px desktop / 8px mobile). Fixed broken sambim.xyz/#ecosystem anchor (now #platform); research titles and SAM_Mollier links now go to DOIs / the SAM_Mollier repository. Digital-twins note reworded as an interest, not a SAM roadmap item (not stated on sambim.xyz). Added SAM scale facts from the LinkedIn About/CV (36 active repositories, 650+ Grasshopper components). Hoare Lea dates un-bolded; og:title aligned; inline SVG favicon added. Verified: no overflow at 320/375/768/1024/1440px, no broken images, empty console, external links 200 (LinkedIn 999 / ResearchGate 403 are bot blocks). Fonts remain TTF (WOFF2 would save ~200 KB; tooling not installed).
  • Follow-up verification (2026-10-10): inspected the actual HTML/JS and review notes after the user supplied the review report. Responsive WebP references, clearer artwork disclosure, platform/research links, SAM facts row, revised biography emphasis and gallery preloading are present; git diff --check passes. This follow-up did not repeat browser testing or independently verify the new DOI destinations. Earlier validation entries are historical, not assertions that the reviewed copy is unchanged. No website code edited in this follow-up.
  • Image review (2026-10-10): visually inspected all seven files in C:/Users/michal/Documents/CV/images. Recommend Michal_Dengusiak square.jpg as the About portrait and IMG_6781.JPG as an authentic recognition/earlier-work image. IMG_6463.JPG is an optional wider BILT 2018 presentation photo. Certificate images IMG_6863.JPG and IMG_6864.JPG visibly distinguish the Buro Happold Single Analysis Model Innovation award from the individual Best Digital Engineer award. Phone screenshots (award.PNG, IMG_6062.jpg) are better treated as reference evidence; the latter contains a potentially useful earlier modelling diagram if a clean original becomes available. Recommendations only: no website assets or code changed during this image review.
  • Reversible photo trial (2026-10-10): user requested a proposed image revision with the ability to revert to the current reviewed version. Replaced the About selfie with the supplied clean portrait; replaced the generic earlier-methods graphic with the 2018 awards photo plus explicitly separate individual/company award captions. Added two unchanged JPG copies, small CSS framing rules and an #earlier-work review anchor. Hero/gallery, accepted biography/project paragraphs and historical assets remain intact. Changed index.html, assets/site.css, assets/ASSET_SOURCES.md, this file; added assets/portrait-michal.jpg, assets/digital-awards-2018.jpg.
  • Photo-trial validation: desktop (1177px) and phone (390px/320px) visually inspected; no horizontal overflow or awards-caption overflow, both new photos load, full-size awards link opens, keyboard focus has a visible 3px outline, browser warning/error log empty. Compared with the immediate pre-trial backup: paragraph content and external link targets unchanged; IDs unique; original backup hashes verified. New photographs are byte-for-byte copies of the supplied files. Screenshots: local _website_refresh/qa/photo-trial-*.jpg. Viewport reset and About preview left open. No commit, push or publication.
  • Exact rollback checkpoint: C:/Users/michal/Documents/CV/_website_refresh/rollback/pre-photo-trial-20261010-201741. Contains byte-for-byte copies of the four modified files and SHA-256 hashes from immediately before this trial, including all previous review fixes. Restore those specific files and remove only the two newly introduced JPG copies if reverting; do not reset to Git HEAD (the reviewed site is uncommitted). This local backup does not travel with Git.
  • Release approval (2026-10-10): user approved the photo trial and explicitly requested committing/pushing the complete portfolio refresh. Final checks: remote origin/master and local HEAD aligned after fetch (0 ahead/0 behind); JS syntax passes; one H1, unique IDs, internal anchors and image alt text verified; all 17 referenced local assets/pages exist without LFS pointers. No additional design changes made.
  • Published release (2026-10-10): committed the full approved refresh as d0a716b and pushed to origin/master. GitHub Pages build/deployment succeeded: https://github.com/mdengusiak/mdengusiak.github.io/actions/runs/38080297667. Live homepage inspected at https://mdengusiak.github.io/; updated content is present and the portrait, awards photo, hero WebP and stylesheet return HTTP 200. Screenshot saved locally as _website_refresh/qa/published-portfolio.jpg. Staged whitespace checks and JS syntax pass; removed one trailing space from the bundled font licence without changing its text.
  • Post-publication review assessment (2026-10-10): checked user-supplied review against 7ce3163, source HTML/CSS, CV HANDOVER.md, SAM website/GitHub org, publisher and Google crawler guidance. Both old biography pages return HTTP 200 and contain obsolete personal content; their retirement/indexing treatment is the strongest useful follow-up while preserving demonstration URLs. Robots disallow alone does not prevent indexing. Hoare Lea dates match the corrected CV; no evidence justifies changing the professional headline. GitHub shows 40 total repositories, which is not a like-for-like comparison with 36 active repositories; scale facts came from supplied CV/LinkedIn and need a defined scope/date rather than an automatic replacement. Publisher chapter title is "Analytical Model (SAM 2.0): A New Frontier in Open-Source Building Energy Simulation" with chapter DOI 10.13124/9788860462022_01; the longer "Sustainable" variant also appears in conference/full-proceedings material, and the current DOI targets the whole proceedings. Four selected papers remain intentional. Fonts are TTF; video is 40,347,422 bytes but uses preload="none"; both unused GIFs are LFS pointers with no HTML references found. Share metadata and WOFF2 are useful polish; sitemap/schema/.nojekyll are not publication blockers. SAM website now explicitly labels SAM 5.0 digital twins as roadmap, so the earlier historical finding that no roadmap was stated is no longer current. Assessment only: no website code changes or push.
  • Local maintenance preview (2026-10-10): user requested implementation and review before any push. Replaced two obsolete biography pages with accessible noindex, follow landing pages linking to the current homepage, preserving their URLs and Git history. Added crawlable robots rules, homepage-only sitemap and factual Person JSON-LD. Corrected SAM 2.0 to the publisher chapter title/DOI. Replaced the changing repository count with a stable .NET toolkit fact; retained 650+ components explicitly dated as an October 2026 CV snapshot, not an independently counted live metric. Removed external-link arrows from internal navigation (directional arrows remain on scroll links). Hoare Lea dates/headline and all accepted paragraphs preserved; user reconfirmed dates. Four selected research entries retained; personal-name spellings unchanged.
  • Maintenance assets: added original vector sharing graphic plus 1200 × 630 JPEG (51,864 bytes), complete Open Graph/Twitter metadata and three WOFF2 fonts. Font payload 285,756 → 89,812 bytes (68.6% reduction), character maps and advance widths preserved; original TTFs/licence retained. Removed only the two backed-up unused GIF pointer files. Original video/player remain at existing URLs with preload="none"; video compression and .nojekyll are not included in this pass.
  • Maintenance validation: static parser confirms all 56 accepted paragraphs preserved, only intended external URL changes, one H1, unique IDs, internal anchors, image alt text, local assets present without LFS pointers, valid JSON-LD/XML and legacy noindex pages allowed by robots. WOFF2/share/legacy/robots/sitemap/original demo URLs return HTTP 200; chapter DOI resolves (200). JS syntax and diff whitespace checks pass. Visually inspected desktop (1440px), normal preview (864px), phone research (390px), retired page (320px); no horizontal overflow at checked widths. Both retired-page links work and 3px keyboard focus is visible. A fresh browser load and gallery click/arrow-key checks have empty warning/error logs; all scene images load. One earlier source-less console error in the reused tab did not recur on reload or in the fresh tab, and has no matching code in the homepage script. QA screenshots under local _website_refresh/qa/maintenance-*; sharing card source/export visually inspected.
  • Files changed: index.html, index_old.html, WebContent/index_20181107.html, assets/site.css, assets/ASSET_SOURCES.md, README.md, this file; added robots.txt, sitemap.xml, assets/share-card.svg, assets/share-card.jpg, three WOFF2 fonts; removed two unused GIF pointer files. Local checkpoint (including the prior uncommitted review notes): C:/Users/michal/Documents/CV/_website_refresh/maintenance-20261010/before, hash manifest and rollback instructions beside it. At the local preview checkpoint, changes were uncommitted and the live site served 7ce3163; maintenance release status follows below.
  • Maintenance release approval (2026-10-10): user reviewed the local maintenance preview and explicitly requested commit and push. Final checkpoint hashes match the approved files; HTML/assets/schema/sitemap checks and JS syntax pass; fetched origin/master is aligned with HEAD (0 ahead/0 behind). Corrected the README's historical GIF-pointer statement to reflect their approved removal; no further site design/content changes made.
  • Maintenance published (2026-10-10): committed as aa4ee25 and pushed to origin/master. Pages build/report/deploy all succeeded: https://github.com/mdengusiak/mdengusiak.github.io/actions/runs/38087954158. Live homepage contains the WOFF2 preload, corrected chapter DOI and new share image; three WOFF2 files, sharing JPEG, robots and sitemap return HTTP 200. Both retired biographies return HTTP 200 with the retirement notice and noindex, follow. Live browser inspection confirms fonts loaded, approved SAM facts present and no horizontal overflow. Screenshot saved locally as _website_refresh/qa/published-maintenance.jpg.
  • Exact next step: no release work remains. Maintain capability/research status and dated component figures as sources change. The current portfolio is published; use committed source when switching machines or agents. Local QA, converter tools and rollback checkpoint remain outside Git.
