Tool request- Stream online radio like “Radio Margaritaville”

[jussaumm-png]

(I am new to Git so I stumbling around for the right place to post)

Hi!

I am hoping for a tool to stream free online radio stations like Radio Margaritaville. The direct steam link is
https://s12.myradiostream.com:18442/listen.mp3

I got that link by inspecting this site
https://www.margaritaville.com/rplay

Hopefully someone can put this together - you have an eager tester waiting. 😎

Thanks,
Matt

Likewise, would love to test something like this. A tool for accessing more than one radio station (like Radio Garden) would be awesome!

Yes, I'm thinking similar to the current podcast tool, a radio tool that you can paste links, such as found in the shoutcast directory or listed on a station's website.

Currently building this. Seems to be working pretty well on my simulator. Thoughts?

You can do the following:

• type in your own known stream address
• search onine stations
• save favourites
• view recently played
• access bluetooth settings (hopefully)

mmm "there is no play/stop icons on the lock screen"? It appeared on my emulator. I'll check it out again.

OK, I think, maybe I see what might be happening and not sure if you can replicate on your physical phone....
Seems a particular order of install. You must have the sdk os/emulator running. First go to settings and under allowed tools choose 'all'. Then start/install the radio tool. Next you should see it in the tools list. Start it, and hopefully the controls appear on the home screen too.

The physical phone differs from the emulator slightly. Under that settings menu, all we see is ‘allowed tools’. This is set to All tools (same as the emulator) and the radio tool is visible. However, when playing and on lock screen, there are no icons below the clock

Hope I’m making sense. I could try to make a video at some stage to demonstrate. Either way, it’s not a deal breaker and the tool seems to be working very well aside from that.

[mrrobashcroft]

Yes, I see what you're saying. One other thing I just realised, to make this work I had to create my own 'LightMediaService' class in the sdk (ie. modified it), so hopefully with an update to the actual LP sdk at some stage, I will be able to use their default/unified controls, and then users will be able to use the controls on the lock screen.

[oneilldavid]

Ah right. I’m not hugely knowledgable on the technical aspects of this, but that all makes sense. I vaguely remember another dev requesting media services for a different tool, so I think that could be what’s going on.

[mrrobashcroft]

@jussaumm-png here's your station working in my Radio Tool :-)

[jussaumm-png]

Fantastic work! Is it useable on a phone currently or best to wait? Thanks

[mrrobashcroft]

Maybe wait a little bit, if you want 'full' experience of also having play/stop controls on the clock homescreen, and I need to check the bluetooth 'shortcut' functions as expected. @oneilldavid has sideloaded it onto a physical phone for testing and the general search/add and playback is all working.

Great, I’ll sit tight. Keep up the solid work!

I have just uploaded a fresh APK v1.1.1
Pretty much everything sorted for what I think will be a very useful tool for finding/saving/listening to online radio stations.
The only thing waiting to do is have it show the media controls as part of LightOS once that's finalised in the SDK.

Have a play and see if everything looks good and works for you.

Note: Next step I am also working on integrating the search and add sections into a unified search to make things simpler but still allow for both keyword searching and direct urls.

[mrrobashcroft]

That's v.1.1.3. All working great, I'll leave it there until the next step of information regarding submitting to Light, when I'll do final checks.

Hey I'm new to all this. Id Love to have this radio tool on my LightPhone, I just have no idea how to go about getting it on here. I downloaded your code but I don't know what to do next.
If anyone could explain the process i'd really appriciate it

[mrrobashcroft]

Hi ya, I see you already got a reply at https://github.com/orgs/lightphone/discussions/236

@oneilldavid has previously loaded the apk onto his phone, so may be able to shed light on that. But yes an official release of loading community apps is in the pipeline for the future.
