Download the latest MacClip-Universal.dmg from the Releases page, open the DMG, and drag MacClip to your Applications folder.
Because MacClip is an open-source project distributed outside the Mac App Store without a paid Apple Developer ID certificate, macOS Gatekeeper shows a warning: "Apple could not verify MacClip is free of malware".
You can easily allow it using either method:
-
Method A (System Settings):
- Open System Settings > Privacy & Security.
- Scroll down to the Security section.
- You will see: "MacClip was blocked from use because it is not from an identified developer".
- Click "Open Anyway" and enter your password.
-
Method B (Quick Terminal 1-liner): Run this command in Terminal to clear the quarantine flag:
xattr -cr /Applications/MacClip.app
(Or if opening the DMG directly:
xattr -cr ~/Downloads/MacClip-Universal*.dmg)
The app is located in your /Applications folder.
open /Applications/MacClip.appOr open Finder > Applications (or Spotlight β Space), search for MacClip, and press Enter.
In macOS, security requires that any app simulating keystrokes into other apps (typing βV for you) must have Accessibility permission:
- When you first open MacClip or click "Grant" in the top banner, macOS will show a permission prompt.
- If prompted, open System Settings > Privacy & Security > Accessibility.
- Toggle the switch next to MacClip to ON.
- Once enabled, selecting any clip or image will automatically paste directly into your active cursor position!
(Even without Accessibility permission, MacClip will still copy the item to your clipboard so you can manually press βV).
To rebuild or package updates:
cd ~/MacClip
./build_app.sh
