Update for anyone following this: the Gutenberg experiment this issue was based on has been removed. PR 81340 removed the content types experiment from Gutenberg on August 10, 2026, before it ever shipped in a WordPress release. The core backport was closed with it, and WordPress 7.0 and 7.1 have no way to create post types from core, so there is nothing for SCF post types to be compatible with right now.
Two notes for the future:
SCF post types already coexist safely with post types registered from other sources. If a key is already registered, SCF skips it and flags the definition as not registered in the list table.
The experiment stored its definitions as wp_user_post_type posts and that data was intentionally left in place on sites that enabled it. A manual cleanup snippet was shared in the removal PR discussion. If the content types work returns to Gutenberg or core, migration support could be revisited here.
WordPress/gutenberg#77600 added the possibility of creating post types from Core.
Let's make SCF post types fully compatible.
