Rethink already provides an automation interface for starting and stopping the VPN, which makes it possible to integrate Rethink with automation tools such as Tasker.
However, there does not currently appear to be a supported way for external automation tools to enable or disable individual Universal Firewall Rules.
I would like to request an automation/intent interface for these rules, particularly:
Block all except bypassed apps and IPs
Block when device is locked
Block when app is not in use
Other Universal Firewall rules where applicable
Use case
A major use case would be scheduled network lockdowns.
For example, I would like to configure:
23:00 → Enable "Block all except bypassed apps and IPs"
07:00 → Disable it
Apps such as WhatsApp could be configured with Bypass Universal, allowing them to remain connected while everything else is blocked.
This would allow users to implement things such as:
Bedtime internet restrictions
Scheduled study modes
Work/focus periods
Automatic network lockdowns
Location/time-based restrictions
without requiring Rethink itself to implement a complete scheduling system.
The existing Rethink firewall already provides the enforcement mechanism, and external automation apps already provide scheduling and conditional triggers.
Exposing the Universal Firewall toggles through Rethink's existing automation interface would therefore allow the two systems to work together cleanly:
Tasker / other automation
↓
Rethink automation API
↓
Universal Firewall rule
↓
Firewall enforcement
This would also avoid relying on UI automation, which is significantly more fragile than a supported intent/API.
