EEPROM Data 8 Error

I got it to dump the eeprom once and confirmed it was all zeroes because I screwed it up in ConfigMagic. When trying to write my correct and backed up eeprom I began getting error 8 and error 1. I then tried i2cdetect again and was no longer seeing anything at address 54. That’s when I noticed that the Xbox immediately starts flashing the red light upon boot.

So it seems it’s always supposed to flash red with an EEPROM error. It turns out my SDA wire came off pin 3 on my Pi. I tried again and was able to see the EEPROM at address 54 but when writing to it I got error data 8. And then was unable to see it on i2cdetect again.

I am getting the same error, but have been unable to read the EEPROM successfully even once.

Using a Raspberry Pi 3 with Rasbian. Wires are tested for continuity and seem to be just fine.

I'm having a very similar issue.

I've got myself a 1.4 XBOX and attempted dumping the EEPROM through PiPROM on a Raspberry Pi 3B+. The same error ("Error reading EEPROM data 8!") appeared. Wiring was triple-checked beforehand.

Somewhere else, I can't find the thread anymore, someone had luck repeatedly executing the read command. So I did that too and in between dozens of "Error reading EEPROM data 8!" and "Error reading EEPROM data 1" I managed to get three dumps. However, they all differ from each other.
When opening them with the XboxEepromEditor, two dumps seem corrupt and only one can successfully be read.

Apart from that, my XBOX now won't boot anymore. All I get is a flashing red light, indicating a bad EEPROM. I know my way around electronics and made absolutely sure not to short anything out or otherwise damage components.

I attempted to re-flash the EEPROM with my one good image but I just can't get it to work. Again, only "Error writing EEPROM data 8" and "Error writing EEPROM data 1". In addition to that, I can't even get another readout (except once, which resulted in a 0 byte bin file).

Ordered a replacement EEPROM (AT24C02), tried programming it on a breadboard. Completely disconnected from the XBOX, just the Pi and an empty EEPROM. No luck. I can see it through i2cdetect on address 50, so I run sudo ./PiPROM.a -w -a 0x50 eeprom2.bin but again, all I get is "Error writing [...] 1/8!".

Was running into the same issue on a 3B+, error 1 and error 8 and could not get any dump whatsoever.

Dug my old 2B out of the drawer and tried with that and it worked instantly. Not sure why the 3B does not play nice.
