Summary

  • rhdh-operator #3851 failed hermetic install because rpm-lockfile-prototype -f Dockerfile solved openssl against the UBI rpmdb. dnf install --installroot then had no glibc/coreutils in the lockfile (nothing provides).
  • Containerfiles with --installroot now run rpm-lockfile-prototype --bare rpms.in.yaml. Layered installs stay on -f.
  • A failed solve restores rpms.lock.yaml / rpms.in.yaml and does not push, so weekly does not open a broken PR.

Test plan

  • bash -n and shellcheck --severity=warning on base-images-and-rpms.sh
  • uv run ruff format and uv run ruff check on tests/unit/test_base_images_and_rpms.py
  • uv run pytest tests/unit/test_base_images_and_rpms.py (45 passed)
  • After merge, bump SKILL_SCRIPT_SHA in midstream weekly-maintenance.sh, then regenerate the operator lockfile with --bare.

Operator rpm-builder installs openssl into an empty rootfs. Solving with
-f uses the UBI rpmdb and omits glibc/coreutils, so hermetic CI then fails
with nothing provides. Use --bare for those Containerfiles, restore the
lockfile and skip the push if the solve fails.
