App Request: SwarmUI / ComfyUI / AI image generation

Why it is useful?

After getting Ollama and OpenWebUI, image generation is still missing from the catalogue. This makes OpenWebUI only half-baked compared to OpenAI.

OpenWebUI could be a proper self-hosted private OpenAI replacement if we had an image generation app. This technology is gaining more importance and should be accessible to everyone.

Content creators can leverage their TrueNAS not only for storage, but also for content creation like script improvements or thumbnail generation.
Having a full AI suite could be a selling factor for a TrueNAS system for a business.
Homelab people can educate themselves and their surroundings into using AI in a local and therefore private way.

What is it?

SwarmUI is a UI for stable diffusion image generation. SwarmUI sits ot top of ComfyUI, which is the most advanced open-source Stable Diffusion backend to my knowledge. In contrast to other implementations, SwarmUI exposes all of ComfyUI's functionality.

I wanted to add that I got ComfyUI working as a custom app. In case someone wants to get it working too:

Issues are: Comfy grabs a lot of memory and holds on to it untill you stop the container. For me ~ 20GB

It is based on https://hub.docker.com/r/frefrik/comfyui-flux
But for sure, it is a very expected addition!

@stavros-k How about ComfyUI? It seems this request is less specific to Swarm and more so the ability to get a single, any, image generation service.

From what I can see in their website, this is a Desktop app. And I couldnt find an official docker image.
If there is an official image please share resources.

Cool! It would be highly appreciated if you could share your yaml or however you set it up. My setup from here https://github.com/YanWenKun/ComfyUI-Docker has some stability issues when utilizing too much memory.

@stavros-k — to answer your question from June 12: ComfyUI indeed has no official Docker image (Comfy-Org ships only the Desktop/portable apps), but we have built a community image from the official Comfy-Org source and submitted a catalog PR:

• Image: chinabanker/comfyui-official:cu130 — ComfyUI v0.33.2, PyTorch 2.13.0+cu130 (native Blackwell/sm_120 support), ComfyUI-Manager included, rebuilt daily via GitHub Actions from the official repo
• Catalog PR: Add ComfyUI app (community) #5509 (community train, ready for review)
• For context: ComfyUI is ~128k stars on GitHub and the de-facto standard for local AI image/video generation (SDXL, Flux, Wan 2.x, LTX-Video, HunyuanVideo, MiniMax H3...)

The PR is complete per CONTRIBUTIONS.md (latest library 2.3.11, app_version tracking upstream, icon source provided, tested on TrueNAS SCALE 26 BETA.2 with RTX 5090). Happy to adjust anything — e.g. min_scale_version once a TrueNAS 26 value lands in the catalog. Thanks!

ComfyUI has 128k stars, but the image source has 0, which is very likely to either not be maintained or disappear (I'll skip the security aspect as we've seen it many times that it can hit from a side project to number one project in popularity).

Given that the image is specifically targeting TrueNAS, it is even more unlikely to be maintained (by the author or other users) compared to an image that is for any platform.

At this point I've seen this happening many times. Some I've catched on early before adding it on the library, but some others are in the catalog and borderline "dead".

So forgive me if I don't want to go down that route again.
It would be awesome if you contribute the container upstream so it is published "officially".
(In contrast with the current image that is comfyui-official, which is not official)
