The Topics screen shows topics with their sub-topics. Lender, stage and
any other breakdown are filters on top ("+ Add filter"), not panels.
- Filters: dims (at most 2 payload keys -> values, e.g.
{"lender_name": ["DMI"]}) and template_ids (several agents). They apply
to topic-dashboard, topic-conversations and the two new types. A call
matches a key when metadata.dims holds any of the values. Values are
cleaned the way the worker cleans them (upper case, spaces to "_").
- topic-tree: topics -> sub-topics with calls and share of all calls in
the range, and the calls of the equal-length window before it (the
console's change column). no_topic is a normal topic, sorted last.
Each sub-topic carries one example call (a grounded customer phrase of
readable length from the last two days of the range) and most_affected:
the breakdown value where it is most over represented against the
other calls with that key (two-proportion z >= 3, at least 150 calls in
the value and 30 in the cell). most_affected is cached in Redis for 5
minutes per filter set; the filters carry the tenant scope, so the key
does too. A Redis error reads as a miss.
- topic-breakdowns: each key from the agents' evaluation_config
breakdowns with its label, and its values with calls, for the filter
menu. dims are not applied, so the menu lists every value.
- topic-conversations: template_ids can replace template_id. A parent
topic opens with topic_type "__other__" and topic_types = its sub-topic
ids.
Query cost: a call has at most one row per topic id (the unique index on
source_id, evaluation_type, result), so per-id counts are COUNT(*), not
COUNT(DISTINCT). Distinct calls are counted only over flat-catalog rows
(ids without a dot, which normalize_topic_type never produces for flat
labels); a two-level call holds one row, so its ids add up. On 1.2M local
rows (30 days x 40k calls) the tree, examples and dims queries take
0.17 s for one day, 0.8 s for seven and 1.8 s for thirty, from 43 s with
COUNT(DISTINCT) and GROUPING SETS.
The rows come from juspay#1325, which writes metadata.dims. Before it, the dims
filter matches nothing and flat topics show as one level.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win
Normalize secondary IDs the same way as primary.
primary passes through normalize_topic_type on both halves. secondary uses only strip().lower(). If the model returns "Mandate_Autopay.Limit Exceeded" or "mandate autopay.limit_exceeded", the primary resolves correctly but the same spelling in secondary is silently dropped. Apply the same split and normalization to each secondary item.

the splits are cached in Redis for 5 minutes per filter set; the filters carry the tenant scope, so the key
does too. A Redis error reads as a miss. Each topic and sub-topic also
carries its calls per day of the range, its description from the
agent's topic_details, its split by each breakdown key (values with
calls, from the cached dims counts), and each sub-topic its five most
read screen texts with calls (metadata.screen_text); an .other

menu. dims are not applied, so the menu lists every value.
- topic-conversations: template_ids can replace template_id. A parent
topic opens with topic_type "__other__" and topic_types = its sub-topic
ids.
- Funnel steps and topic_details keys may be written as names ("Flipkart
app", "Cart.Out of stock"), the form juspay#1325 accepts; they are matched
as the ids the evaluator writes. Before, a config in that form showed
no step strip and no definitions.
- Screen texts and named reasons that differ only in case, spacing or
punctuation are one entry, shown in their most common spelling.
- topic-tree totals carry customer_spoke (two-level calls where the
customer said anything) and short_calls (one or two lines, at most 8
words in all), from metadata.customer_turns / customer_words; both are
null when no row in the range carries the counts.
- topic-breakdowns labels the built-in outcome field "Outcome".
Query cost: a call has at most one row per topic id (the unique index on
source_id, evaluation_type, result), so per-id counts are COUNT(*), not
COUNT(DISTINCT). Distinct calls are counted only over flat-catalog rows
(ids without a dot, which normalize_topic_type never produces for flat

filter matches nothing and flat topics show as one level.

The Topics card shows each topic with its sub-topics inline, and one
Segment control narrows the whole card to one value of one field (a
lender, a stage, the call outcome). Nothing here needs per-agent setup
beyond the breakdown keys an agent already names.

topic, sorted last. Each sub-topic carries one example call for the
hover card (a grounded customer phrase of readable length from the last
two days of the range, its English line, summary and segment values);
on an .other sub-topic the example prefers a call whose reason the
model named, so the card can show "model-named, e.g. ...".
- topic-breakdowns: the Segment menu. Each breakdown key from the agents'
evaluation_config with its label, plus the call outcome every
two-level row carries (label "Outcome"), each with its values and
calls. dims are not applied, so the menu lists every value in scope.
The counts are cached in Redis for 5 minutes per filter set; the
filters carry the tenant scope, so the key does too. A Redis error
reads as a miss.

Before it, the dims filter matches nothing and flat topics show as one

…btopic
A catalog whose every entry is "Topic.Subtopic" switches that agent to
the two-level path; a flat list keeps the open-label extraction, so agents
convert one at a time by editing their list.
- topics/catalog.py (pure): parse "Topic.Subtopic", detect the shape,
refuse a mixed list (an empty list takes the first added entry's
shape), keep each label as the catalog writes it ("KYC", ids stay
normalized), build the id set (every parent gets <parent>.other,
plus no_topic.no_issue / no_detail / other), render it for the prompt,
force the model's answer into the catalog, and copy breakdown values
from the lead payload.
- extractor: classify_topic() = code-owned rules + rendered catalog +
the agent's DB prompt, one LLM call, one id. An unknown subtopic lands
in its parent's .other, an unknown parent in no_topic.other, and the
model's own name survives only as "proposed" on an .other row. An
answer with no topic.subtopic primary is a bad response (one retry),
never a silent no_topic.other row. A phrase the customer never said
marks the row grounded=false instead of dropping it; a no_topic answer
without a quote has nothing to check and stays grounded. The resolver
accepts topic_details (description, include, exclude per id; keys in
display form such as "KYC.Location error" map to the id) and
breakdowns (at most 2 payload keys). The answer also carries
phrase_en (the phrase in English, any name written as [customer]).
The phrase writes any
person's name as [customer]; grounding treats [customer] as any short
run of words, so a masked quote still matches the customer's turn.
- evaluator: the two-level path saves one row per call in one statement
(replace_topic_result): it deletes the call's other TOPIC rows and
inserts the new one; a row that already holds the same id is updated
in place (ON CONFLICT), because the CTE's DELETE is not visible to the
INSERT's unique check. Secondary ids, summary, proposed, grounded and
dims go in metadata.
- flat path: auto-add skips a label with a dot, which would read as
Topic.Subtopic and could flip an empty catalog to two-level. The
append itself (flat_only) refuses a stored list whose every entry has
a dot, so a job that read the flat list before an admin converted it
cannot flip the list back. Admin /topics/add is not guarded.
- the code-owned rules were tuned on Flipkart calls with qwen3.7-flash:
a named reason beats a closing "later", any real point beats
no_issue, the later step a customer reached wins, a generic-error id
needs the customer's own error words, and garbled turns name no
reason. no_issue now means "nothing the catalog covers", since later
and not-interested reasons are catalog topics of their own.
- worker: the lead payload and the call outcome ride into the context
(same query as today); a chat session brings its outcome too.
- call outcome: classify_topic adds "CALL OUTCOME: <outcome>" after the
transcript. The model uses it only where the agent's own rules give
that outcome a meaning (Flipkart maps DOWNPAYMENT_TOO_HIGH,
KYC_REJECTED, MANDATE_CREATION_FAILED) and only when the customer named
no reason, request or question of their own. Every two-level row also
stores it as dims.outcome, so the console offers Outcome as a segment
for every agent with no setup.
- no person's name in "proposed" either.
- topics API: /topics/add refuses an entry that breaks the list's shape;
the configuration PATCH/response carry topic_details and breakdowns.
Tests: catalog shape and problems, id ordering and rendering, answer
forcing, dims cleaning and limits, prompt assembly and grounding, the
evaluator's two paths, and on Postgres (set CRM_WEBHOOK_TEST_DSN) the
replace query (it fails on a plain DELETE+INSERT CTE) and the guarded
auto-add (it fails without the guard). Full suite: 4554 passed.

What
An agent whose catalog entries are all written
Topic.Subtopic(for exampleKYC.Location error) moves to a two-level path: every finished call is classified into exactly onetopic.subtopicid and stored as one row.
