Why

The Topics card shows each topic with its sub-topics inline, and one Segment control narrows the card to one value of one field (a lender, a stage, the call outcome).
This PR gives the console that data.
Nothing here needs per-agent structure beyond the breakdown keys an agent already names: there is no funnel or step setting, so it works the same for every merchant.

What changes

All of it is new /analytics types and filters. No migration and no write path.

Filters (AnalyticsFilters)

  • dims: at most 2 keys -> values, for example {"lender_name": ["DMI"]} or {"outcome": ["CANCEL"]}.
    A call matches a key by its one value: a call with several values of a key (offers from two lenders) has the value MORE_THAN_ONE.
    So each key's values add up to its calls, and the console can show "More than one lender" as its own value.
    Values are cleaned the way the worker cleans them (" dmi " -> "DMI").
  • template_ids: several agents at once. The same topic id on two agents adds up.
  • Both apply to topic-dashboard, topic-conversations, topic-tree and topic-breakdowns. They only narrow the RBAC scope; they never widen it.

topic-tree (new)

{"type": "topic-tree",
 "filters": {"date_from": "2026-10-08", "date_to": "2026-10-08", "template_ids": ["..."], "dims": {"lender_name": ["DMI"]}}}

Response shape (illustrative values):

{"previous_window": {"date_from": "2026-10-07", "date_to": "2026-10-07"},
 "totals": {"calls": 9454, "previous_calls": 8810},
 "topics": [
   {"topic": "autopay", "label": "Autopay", "calls": 1016, "previous_calls": 707, "share": 10.75,
    "daily": [{"date": "2026-10-08", "calls": 1016}],
    "subtopics": [
      {"topic_type": "autopay.limit_exceeded_or_expired_error", "label": "Limit exceeded or expired error",
       "calls": 388, "previous_calls": 301, "share": 4.1, "daily": [...],
       "example": {"source_id": "…", "template_id": "…", "started_at": "…",
                   "phrase": "लिमिट तो चालीस हज़ार है, फिर भी बोल रहा है लिमिट एक्सीड हो गई।",
                   "phrase_en": "The limit is forty thousand, still it says the limit is exceeded.",
                   "summary": "Customer says the limit is ₹40,000 but the app says it is exceeded.",
                   "proposed": null,
                   "dims": {"lender_name": ["DMI"], "outcome": ["ISSUE_REPORTED"]}}}]}]}
  • share is of all calls in the range. no_topic (no issue, no detail, not in catalog) is a normal topic, sorted last.
  • previous_calls is the equal-length window before the range, the same window as topic-dashboard (the card's Change column).
  • daily: calls per day of the range, from the same scan as the counts (the drill-down's volume chart).
  • example: one call per sub-topic for the hover card, from the last two days of the range. On an .other sub-topic a call whose reason the model named wins first (the card shows "model-named, e.g. ..."), then a grounded customer phrase of 15-140 characters, then the newest.

topic-breakdowns (new)
The Segment menu: each key from the agents' evaluation_config.configuration.breakdowns with its label, plus the call outcome that every two-level row carries (label "Outcome"), each with its values and calls.
dims is not applied here, so the menu always lists every value.
The counts are cached in Redis for 5 minutes per filter set. The filters carry the tenant scope, so the cache key does too. A Redis error reads as a miss.

topic-conversations
template_ids can replace template_id.
To open a whole parent topic, send topic_type: "__other__" with topic_types = its sub-topic ids. No new code is needed for this.

Query cost

A call has at most one row per topic id (the unique index on source_id, evaluation_type, result).
So per-id counts are COUNT(*), not COUNT(DISTINCT source_id), which always sorts every row.
Distinct calls are counted only over flat-catalog rows (ids without a dot; normalize_topic_type never writes a dot for flat labels, and prod has 0 dotted TOPIC ids today).
A two-level call holds one row, so its ids add up, and the distinct query runs only when flat ids are in scope.

Measured with EXPLAIN ANALYZE on 1.5M local rows (30 days x 40k Flipkart-like calls, plus 300k rows of another merchant), before this PR was cut down: the tree, the examples and the dims counts together took 0.17 s for 1 day, 0.8 s for 7 and 1.8 s for 30, from 1.2 s, 10.5 s and 43 s with COUNT(DISTINCT) and GROUPING SETS.
Of the 1.8 s at 30 days, 1.4 s was the dims counts.
They now run only for the Segment menu (topic-breakdowns), are cached, and group by key and value only.
With a dims filter the tree query is 0.37 s for 7 days and 0.65 s for 30: the filter reads each row's metadata.

Depends on

The rows come from #1325, which writes metadata.dims (with the outcome) and the two-level topic.subtopic ids.
This PR has no code dependency on #1324 or #1325 and can merge in any order.
Before #1325 is live, dims matches nothing and flat topics show as one level with one sub-topic.

E2E test (local server + local Postgres + Redis, 12 Oct)

2,399 Flipkart calls of 8 Oct, labelled by qwen3.7-flash through #1325, are in local evaluation_result on two agents.
The console (loom #382) ran against this server:

  • the card shows 16 topics and 120 sub-topics, and the footer reads "2,223 of 2,399 conversations gave a reason · 176 no clear reason";
  • the Segment menu lists Stage, Lender and Outcome with their counts;
  • Outcome = DOWNPAYMENT_TOO_HIGH narrows the card to its 23 calls, all under "EMI plan and limit > Down payment too high";
  • the hover card shows the quote, its English line and the segment values;
  • the drill-down lists the calls of the picked topic.

Tests

tests/test_topic_tree_analytics.py: filter cleaning and refusals, dims and template_ids go in as $n parameters with the previous window, the Segment menu lists each field with its values busiest first, and the first agent's breakdown label wins.
Full suite: 4551 passed. black, isort, autoflake, pyrefly, check_crm_boundaries.py and check_migrations.py are clean.

Security Architecture Review

Security architecture risk: 🔵 Low · up to 762a3

The inspected paths preserve tenant restrictions. However, missing or invalid cache configuration can prevent topic-tree responses instead of allowing uncached results. The demonstrated impact is availability, not unauthorized access.

Retained concerns

  • Low · reliability · observed: The new topic-tree response unconditionally invokes the standout cache. Missing or invalid Redis configuration raises an exception outside the existing RedisError fallback, and malformed cached JSON is decoded without recovery. Either condition fails the entire response instead of using uncached results. This is a newly introduced request dependency on existing cache behavior; ordinary Redis connection and command failures already have fallback handling.
Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — For the inspected public path, data exposure follows the caller's effective reseller and merchant permissions, including intentional wildcard access. A cache configuration failure can affect every topic-tree caller in the affected deployment; an invalid cached entry affects requests sharing its scoped digest. No cross-tenant cache-key mismatch was established.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — Attacker-controlled request filters cross the authorization boundary before reaching SQL or cache lookup. The exact comparison shows no change to that boundary. New topic queries retain its tenant predicates, and the cache identity hashes the complete effective filter set rather than only user-selected dimensions.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • observed — Existing RedisError handling contains ordinary cache operation failures, but configuration and decoding failures escape the new cache caller and reach the endpoint's error response. This weakens availability isolation without relaxing authorization. No attacker-controlled cache-write path was established.

Hardening Proposals

  • proposed — Make the standout cache explicitly best-effort: treat known configuration failures and invalid or incompatible cached payloads as misses or unsuccessful writes, while preserving authorization and database failures as errors.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟠 Major | 🏗️ Heavy lift

Topic-level counts double-count calls that carry several sub-topics.

get_topic_tree_query returns COUNT(DISTINCT ca.source_id) for each ca.result (sub-topic). This loop then adds those sub-topic counts together to get the topic's calls, last_day_calls and previous_day_calls. Suppose one call has two sub-topics under the same topic, for example kyc.selfie_fails and kyc.doc_blurry. That call is counted twice in the topic. As a result:

  • Topic calls can be higher than the real number of distinct calls.
  • _topic_shares can report a topic share above 100%.
  • change_pp uses the inflated counts.
  • totals.with_reason is also wrong, because no_issue and no_detail come from the same sub-topic sums.

Compute distinct calls per topic in SQL instead. One option is to add a grouping set on COALESCE(ca.metadata ->> 'topic', ca.result) next to the existing ROLLUP (ca.result). The handler should then read the topic counts from those rows and stop summing sub-topics.

Filter breakdown rows to configured keys.

When a topic result contains a dimension key that is absent from the matching templates’ breakdowns configuration, get_topic_breakdowns_analytics adds that key through setdefault. The response can therefore include an unconfigured breakdown key, despite the handler contract returning configured agent breakdown keys.

The Topics card shows each topic with its sub-topics inline, and one
Segment control narrows the whole card to one value of one field (a
lender, a stage, the call outcome). Nothing here needs per-agent setup
beyond the breakdown keys an agent already names.

- Filters: dims (at most 2 keys -> values, e.g. {"lender_name": ["DMI"]})
  and template_ids (several agents). They apply to topic-dashboard,
  topic-conversations and the two new types. A call matches a key by its
  one value: a call with several values of a key (offers from two
  lenders) has the value MORE_THAN_ONE, so each key's values add up to
  its calls. Values are cleaned the way the worker cleans them (upper
  case, spaces to "_").
- topic-tree: topics -> sub-topics with calls and share of all calls in
  the range, the calls of the equal-length window before it (the card's
  Change column), and calls per day of the range. no_topic is a normal
  topic, sorted last. Each sub-topic carries one example call for the
  hover card (a grounded customer phrase of readable length from the last
  two days of the range, its English line, summary and segment values);
  on an .other sub-topic the example prefers a call whose reason the
  model named, so the card can show "model-named, e.g. ...".
- topic-breakdowns: the Segment menu. Each breakdown key from the agents'
  evaluation_config with its label, plus the call outcome every
  two-level row carries (label "Outcome"), each with its values and
  calls. dims are not applied, so the menu lists every value in scope.
  The counts are cached in Redis for 5 minutes per filter set; the
  filters carry the tenant scope, so the key does too. A Redis error
  reads as a miss.
- topic-conversations: template_ids can replace template_id. A parent
  topic opens with topic_type "__other__" and topic_types = its sub-topic
  ids.

Query cost: a call has at most one row per topic id (the unique index on
source_id, evaluation_type, result), so per-id counts are COUNT(*), not
COUNT(DISTINCT). Distinct calls are counted only over flat-catalog rows
(ids without a dot, which normalize_topic_type never produces for flat
labels); a two-level call holds one row, so its ids add up. On 1.2M local
rows (30 days x 40k calls) the tree, examples and menu queries take
0.17 s for one day, 0.8 s for seven and 1.8 s for thirty, from 43 s with
COUNT(DISTINCT) and GROUPING SETS.

The rows come from juspay#1325, which writes metadata.dims (with the outcome).
Before it, the dims filter matches nothing and flat topics show as one
level.
