feat(topics): two-level topic lists, and segment filters read from the call payload - #1372

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win
Apply the configured split to list elements.
If a payload field contains ["TVS_CREDIT, DMI"] and the segment uses split=",", this branch keeps the string intact. The resolver then stores other instead of both allowed values. Split each non-null list element before matching it.

…e call payload Two-level lists. When every entry of an agent's topic list is written "Topic.Subtopic", the worker no longer adds new labels to it, labels keep the list's casing, and Top 10/20/25 ranks all sub-topics of a topic together, so a topic is never split by the fold into Other. A call keeps one sub-topic of each topic (the first the model gives, before max_topics cuts the list), so a topic counts calls, not mentions. Segments. An agent's topic config can list segments. Each one names a payload field and the full list of values it can take, for example the lender and the stage for Flipkart. The worker already reads the lead row for the transcript; it now also passes the payload (for chat, the session metadata). Each saved topic row keeps the call's segments in metadata.segments, always as lists. A value that is not in the config's list is stored as "other", and a missing value as "not_known". The topic catalog returns the segment definitions. The topic dashboard and the drill-down take a segments filter (key to values) and match it in SQL with $ parameters; with one agent selected, the dashboard also returns the conversation count of each segment value, leaving out that segment's own filter. Each summary row also carries conversation_total, the exact number of conversations behind its share. Agents without segments save their rows as before. There is no migration: metadata is already jsonb. Segments that an LLM would fill are not part of this change.

What this does
One PR for the topics work: two-level topic lists, and topic dashboards cut by fields the call already carries (for example lender and stage for Flipkart). Nothing in the code knows these fields; each agent's topic config names them.
Two-level topic lists
When every entry of an agent's topic list is written
"Topic.Subtopic":max_topicscuts the list. So a topic row counts calls, not mentions, and the console can add up its sub-topics.Flat lists behave as before.
Segments
Config.
evaluation_config.configuration.segmentsis a list of up to 5 segments. Each one names a payloadfield, an optionalsplit, and the full list ofvalues. The topic configuration PATCH validates the shape and answers 400 with the reason.Worker.
get_analysis_contextalready reads the lead row for the transcript. It now also passeslead.payload(for chat,session.metadata). There is no new database read.Save.
topics/segments.pymaps the payload value onto the config's list. Each topic row of the call keeps the result inmetadata.segments, always as lists. A value that is not in the list is stored asother, and a missing value asnot_known. The model never decides these values.Filter. The topic dashboard and the drill-down take
segments(key to values). SQL:ca.metadata -> 'segments' -> $n::text ?| $m::text[]. Each segment in the filter takes 1 to 100 values; an empty list is refused with 422.Catalog.
GET /templates/{id}/topicsalso returns the agent's segments (key and values), so the console can show them as filter dropdowns to everyone with access to the agent.Counts. When one agent is selected, the topic dashboard also returns
segment_counts: the number of conversations for each segment value in the window. Each segment's own filter is left out of its counts, so a dropdown still shows the other values. Each summary row also carriesconversation_total, the exact number of conversations behind its share.Ranges. A number field can use
rangesin place ofvalues:{"key": "order_value", "field": "total_price", "ranges": [500, 2000]}makes the values<500,500-2000and2000+. Up to 10 edges, written in full (1000000+, not1e+06+). The saved config keeps these values and passes the same check again when the worker or the catalog reads it. A value that is not a number is stored asnot_known.Example config for a Flipkart agent:

pytest tests/services/conversation_analysis/: 75 passed, including the two-level list guard, the topic-grouped Top N, the payload mapping (split, case, value not in the list, missing value, number ranges), config validation, the saved metadata, the SQL filter, the counts query, the catalog response and the chat context.pyrefly, the CRM boundary guard and the migration guard pass.qwen/qwen3.7-flashon OpenRouter): 2,000 Flipkart checkout calls from a hand-coded golden set, on a new agent with a 45-label two-level list and the lender and stage segments. 1,700 calls got a topic; against the golden labels 90.8% have the same topic and 71.1% the same sub-topic. Every saved row carries the call's lender and stage, and the dashboard filters and counts match the payload.Console: juspay/loom#387.
